About BUAN

Buan Press is a new publishing company that seeks to help people to feel better connected, to places, and to other people.

Buan is named after the ancient Celtic term buan, meaning enduring, long lasting, andthe Old English phrase that means both to live, to dwell, to be in a place, and to make, to build.

Buan has been set up to create beautiful books that capture the spirit of place, and to bring to life places that people care about.

Our Story

Buan Press has been set up to create visually rich books that capture the spirit of place, and to bring to life places that people care about. And, in doing so, to help people to feel better connected, to places, and to other people.

Recognising that a sense of place is innately connected to who we are, and that our relationship with how and where we live is more critical than at any other time.

Our own connections with a place can be as unique as each of us, but we can also share a fondness for a landscape and a coastline, or sense a common spirit.

Like cairn stones placed along a path, we hope our books can serve as way markers: guides that signal a connection with land and community.

Our Books

Our books are made to capture the spirit of place. Each one explores how landscapes, memory and community shape one another, combining words, photography and illustration to bring a place to life.

Every title is produced with care, designed as a lasting hardback, and made to be kept, shared and returned to.

Our first book, Waterlands, tells the story of the harbours and tidal coastlines of West Sussex and East Hampshire. Future titles will continue this work in other places, each one rooted in memory, community and landscape.
