Reviews

Buan
"The book speaks to our feelings about place more broadly. That is its deeper magic: in showing the essence of this small area through lucid prose and stunning photographic images, Waterlands models what makes places meaningful more generally."
Kirsten E Shepherd, University of Oxford

"It is beautiful. The photos and illustrations are phenomenal – they really bring the whole thing to life."
Hetty Saunders, author

"It's great to hear of Buan closing the loop between literature and conservation."
Robert Macfarlane, author

"A deeply researched and deeply satisfying kaleidoscopic look at one of the most beautiful stretches of British coastline. Fascinating for locals, visitors and anyone interested in the future of our wildlife, landscapes and seaside communities. It is a beautiful book."
Patrick Barkham, natural history writer, The Guardian

"It's so rich with information and insight. It's a love letter to the area but also a thoughtful meditation on who we are, where we come from and where we find ourselves."
Martin Love, The Observer

"This is a Sunday book: one to dip into early in the morning, opening at any page that calls to you. Waterlands holds a joy that lingers."
Bob England, England at Home

"Gilbey's blend of research, anecdote and reflection illuminates the region's prehistory, culture and creative legacy in a way that traditional guidebooks rarely achieve."
Ken Cox, award-winning author
